Has anyone tried to get Dr. Andrew Trites to speak at any of these meetings? He’s certainly better qualified than pretty much anyone else on the Science side!

I have been to one of his talks on SRKW at UBC and being a marine mammal/whale expert at UBC he is very informative and good speaker.

Speaking here with the PFA Town Hall Meeting in mind ( Nov 13th in Langford ), my feeling on it is that it isn't really the best fit for this event. Just my opinion. Don't get me wrong I could listen all day to Dr. Trites. I think because we already know the results of his research and expertise and those results are one of the reasons that we know DFO's focusing on static fishing closure areas for recreational anglers is just simply not effective at doing anything for SRKW and at the same time is destroying the economy that public/rec fishing brings to BC.

His research I believe involved a team of international scientists from both sides of the border and it showed that there are 8 times the needed amount of chinook in Juan de Fuca to feed SRKW in the summer. Trites has also pointed out in other talks that SRKW show signs of malnourishment (emaciated) as they come back to BC after having spent winters down south along Washington Oregon/Calif coasts. My point here is that I am not sure we really need to take up a chunk of time at the Town Hall learning this info again. I think we already have the information we need from Trites and just not enough time at the Town Hall to add more of this detail into the meeting. Just my opinion....and possibly some of the PFA directors may disagree ... The PFA Town Hall Meeting I think is for bringing together a unified voice to the event with the purpose of informing everyone including the politicians there , that we are a unified group and are all joining forces in a plan to hit DFO with a huge wave of push back on this and that we won't accept the proposed expansion of SRKW closure areas. There is no scientific proof that shows these area closures work in the slightest..... in fact the opposite.

If we could somehow get DFO's SRKW Team to listen to Trites and follow his recommendations we would probably be much closer to finding the real issues that might be causing SRKW health problems.
