Impact of seals on salmon fishing on the Victoria Waterfront

As for the number of hookups after playing the tape at full blast when we had a fish on, it was interesting fishing in those days. We figured out that if we dropped the gear to 150 feet and trolled at 3.5 mph with a Dodger and an army truck hootchie, we would catch coho to 9 pounds!!! and Springs to 25!!!. We were doing really well, and actually landing our fish, as opposed to the other 15 boats that fished out of Bowser Bill's and spent their time feeding seals. As for the sound, it didn't make a difference. We would troll 10 minutes and often would have another hit, so the whale sounds made no difference. The big difference was that we could troll off of Chrome Island and not lose fish after fish after fish.

Hey guys , great idea ,the only caveat I would say is that it has to be TRANSIENT killer whale calls not residents. Seals know the difference between the two types and often follow resident killer whales to feed on slmon scraps and injured salmon. I will try and fing a link to local transient calls.
