I have to ask....

The brat is 8 now and knows about and is not so afraid of guns in the home. I am good to go as long as Bambie lives. The boy deer can die and is OK to eat. Her mother and I were talking about going and teaching her to shot a 22 single shot cooey. I think it is great...Mom is steping back but is ok with it. I just think she should know and not be scared. She also knows meat does not come from Costco. She know about hambugar cows and standing rib cows. As well as easter turkey's etc. I do not hold back....Some of your know that...

So should she come to the range and learn to hit a target? I think so do you?

I say yes. As long as this is something she would like to do.

My wife and both girls have shot paper with my 22 and the wife has shot the 30-06 a few times as well. All have been hunting with me and have seen dead deer and even been there for the turning inside out of a few grouse. We did this in a way that they were sharing in what dad loves to do and that it is not cruel. We asked them if they would like to be there and wen they said yes we made it happen. With the grouse I explained it to them first and I honestly can not remember if both of them watched or if the youngest decided not to. I will have to ask her.

I do not think 8 is too young at all. If you have a pellet gun or an air soft that is a great way to start. It is a quiet way of getting them used to firing and also helping them understand that once they squeeze the trigger there is no taking it back.

Go for it. I wish I had made more time for it. Now they are teens and not too interested in it.

I have been thinking of starting to hunt again as I have not since moving to the island. If I ever get tires on the truck I think I will . Be good to go tip a buck over for some burger and sausage.

Cheers: Ray

Cheers, Ray.....Lets go kill. I just bought my second tag in 37 years. So lets go use it........Should ask how does the range work. Only ever gone to one 2 times. Guess I should use my membership.....Yes that would be another topic.... Still have a need to go kill some fish....But I need something to fill in the time.

I started taking my Daughter hunting as soon as she was "House Broke", I don't do diapers.
She started shooting paper at 6, gophers at 8 and at 14 made a 284yd. shot on her first Whitetail!
She is 18 now, doesn't want to kill anything now, but still wants to go out hunting with Dad.

hey f.a.! i have been takin my girl grouse hunting for the last couple of years! she loves it! great father/ daughter time. she is now 9. last weekend had her finally blast the 22! she was so excited she brought back the timmys cup with holes in it to show her mom! much to moms dismay! i thought it was pricelessssss

I taught both my daughters to handle firearms and took one hunting for deer> We got one -she was all questions as we cleaned it and there were no problems. Sadly they both grew out of it but it wasn't wasted-they are not anti-hunting and encourage their husbands and sons to hunt if they want to. They often mention the times we spent plinking tin cans with a .22

I believe that the vast majority of 8 year olds are too young to really understand firearm safety.
Remember to keep your firearms securely locked up there are too many tragic accidents involving children that could have been prevented.

Absolutely. My 9 year old and I spend hours at the range. It's some of the cheapest entertainment going. It teaches responsibility, respect, discipline, and countless other lessons. More kids need to learn about the outdoors and handling of firearms. If kids are exposed to firearms and taught properly, it takes the mystery out of it and therefore the danger.

I grew up on a farm and we always had a .22 hanging over the back door. Dad said never to touch it, but whenever we wanted to shoot it, he would take us.

Don't let this opportunity pass you by.

Dave
