All late model Chev, Ford and Dodge trucks require a CAM to prevent a voltage spike from the Hydrastar locking out the Trailer Control Module on the truck. Once locked out the trailer will have no brakes until the truck is placed in park to reset the error. All new Hydrastar brake package's and new trailers come with the CAM. Most trailers like my two year old EZloader have the CAM jerry-rigged under the Hydrastar actuator using a purpose built steel bracket. So if you have an older trailer without the CAM and a newer truck your knackered. But here is the latest, if you have a 2024 or 2025 GMC/Chevy you require a further updated CAM which is basically a diode on the brake wire. I couldn't find a trailer repair shop in Victoria or a supplier that had the CAM update, in fact I might as well being try to convince them that the earth was flat. In the end I had to have the part shipped overnight from the factory. Cost of the part $72 USD shipping $122.10 USD. Make of it what you will, but the risk of driving a trailer that randomly has no brakes is going to maimed and kill people not to mention the property damage. WTF no recall from GM, EZloader, Hydrastar or the Dealer who sold me the boat.
