How to clean Aluminum Hull

Hi all. I'm a new aluminum boat owner and I am wondering how to remove this harder dark stuff off of the outside of my hull in order for me to polish and wax the aluminum.

I'd start with Starbrite Ultimate Aluminum Cleaner and a mild pad. Bar Keeper's Friend also works OK on cleaning up aluminum and isn't as strong.

dont do it. the oxidation keeps your hull safe. and gives it character.

at least thats what i keep telling myself.....
