The current state of Conservative thought leaders are intellectually bankrupt, that's why I can't support them.
Exhibit A: Ben Shapiro
Which party is he running for in Canada? Lame effort.

So true!I actually didn't mind Paul Martin.
Of course if Harper had made a quarter of the cuts Martin did, the CBC would probably have had run hourly emergency broadcasts requesting his assassination before Canada itself was destroyed.
I do agree that it was much less fiscally conservative to restore so much of the funding that Martin had cut and it did add to the federal debt. Of course it radically reduced provincial deficits which were spiraling out of control at the time, but that's not the kind of thing anyone who thinks Harper was a monster will care about. It also seems to escape people that the big budget era of Harper was during the minority government phase when if he couldn't get support from the lefty parties, they'd have brought down the government...and their plan was to spend way more! So much of that debt would have been doubled if we'd given the keys to anyone else.
The province that didn't really get improved much despite having some funding restored was Ontario, which became the holder of the largest sub-sovereign debt in the world...yes, only some national governments owed more money than Ontario.
Who was running Ontario at the time? Kathleen Wynne and Gerald Butts. Probably a coincidence, I guess.
Anyway the bottom line is that very few Canadians have the stomach for the cuts necessary to get our actual total debt under control. The reason big C conservatives retain the fiscal conservative title is because while they might fund stuff and borrow money when they think they have to, it's against their core principles and they would prefer to reduce the debt as much as possible.
The Liberals do not share this philosophy, as evidenced by the decision to run deficits in good times, and the attempt to rebrand deficits as significant only as "percent of GDP".
That's valid in the sense that a person who makes 30gs a year has a bigger problem with an annual deficit of $1000 than a person who makes 90gs a year...but if you never stop going deeper into debt then making more money doesn't fix your problem. Ultimately you have to pay it back.
The current administration has had years of good times and easy money. They paid off nothing and borrowed more.
That's why the Conservatives are conservative and the Liberals are liberal.
Thanks Wolf, someone else believes the same as me. Well said. I am amazed that some are spinning, supporting and still totally hazed by SUNNY WAYS, shame on you as a fisherperson. NOT in the same Canada as me, maybe smoking too much new legally taxed ganga. Was that not JT's plan? alter their state of mind "to believe" his lies, BS and new taxes that will save the planet, all while he breaks rules, takes and gives away your $$$ and laughs.
I am not fooled, I do pay more than 50% of every $ earned in a tax. Only a fool argues they are not and applies the JT spin. Only low life's do not. Unemployed?, incarcerated, terrorists, I am none of those. How much has he cost Canada on a global stage?? Those who voted for him should be MADE to burden his dept. load. I want to return to fishing, access, legal gun ownership, less tax and the ability to legally pursue my passions in Canada. And lets not forget I don't want to see our PM crying weekly on the 6 pm news. That's just me, I understand his supporters eat that **** up.

It was an honest question GLG, however I can criticize insane spending of tax payers money as well.
Sheer will no doubt curl back spending, cut some taxes to let us breath and let business get back to making jobs that aren’t funded by myself and my kids!
Ok so for you left wing peeps who have no idea that this **** costs you money... to date for every man woman and child we are at $1243.00 this year alone promised by Justin. Yes that’s your money... you have to pay... so my family that’s $6215.00. THIS YEAR! Man how can’t you see that!
Are you for some reason assuming that past party approaches to the economy are being abandoned and that only policy decisions specifically announced in the runup to this election count? Thanks for the reply. If you run into any policy that is released by Scheer do post it as I'm sure many of us would like to look at it but I doubt there will be any. Seems he is trying to use the Doug Ford method and just not produce anything that he needs to explain. It's a trust me folks I know what to do. As they say the devil is in the details.
