hoping someone can help I have a Honda long leg on a tin boat the leg is 16" below the bottom of the boat any advice on how this will run thanks art

never a prob with too deep but ideally
you want the cavitation plate just above the keal.

Might have to keep some weight in the bow until you get the trim figured out. Its gonna want to stand the bow up.

I had to raise my Honda 15 long leg because it was throwing a lot of spray at full speed, some of which was coming forward over the transom.

The cavitation plate on the motor SHOULD be at a level that is close to the planing surface at the stern. Less shaft in the water = less drag = better performance (speed, fuel consumption). If the prop cavities, motor is too high. Try to trim the motor where when viewed from the side the cavitation plate is parallel to the planing surface of the stern area.

It will effect your turning as as well. I have never experienced it but I've heard some folks talk about getting thrown from the boat. Something to think about.

oh ya. she will bite hard when cranked!!

I fished the south Thompson for years with an extra long leg 9.9 merc on a 14' tinnie. I loved that combo. She flew up River with two peeps and all gear. Just don't forget the extra length and you'll be fine. Plus, if/when you go to a bigger boat the long leg can be an advantage there too.
