I would like to share with your experience pro and con about the leader for spoons, hootch, coho killers, etc beside the flasher or without flasher etc.

My goal I want to improve to catch more springs this year.

Some people said that Coho killer should put 36" on beside the flasher..... some people said that 60"

Some people said that 36" or 42" hootch some people said that 60"

Spoon 4' or 5'

bait

Anchovies 6 feet leader?

Herring 6 feet leader?

When to use it?

Thank you for your time and sharing.

Hi
If you use the 'advance search' and query the words 'leader length' under Titles only, you'll find a few past discussions on this topic.

For me I watch the gear leader length and speed and current go hand and hand. I like 6' or more on meet but the next guy might not. I like to troll a little quicker also.

Discus:- the "Coho Killer" for Chinooks:- yes , it was said that tying these 36 to 38" behind flasher will produce Chinooks. Good Luck. I've tried that and have yet to nail a Chinook on them..I've also ran them as long as 6ft behind.....that didn't work either for me. Tried several colors. So instead...I use something that DOES work. I heard the Coho Killers work pretty good around Oak Bay Flats though at times.

Hoochies:- generally speaking:- 37 to 38 " from back of flasher to nose of hoochy is what gets Chinooks for me....others will run often run shorter....34" etc. .....big summer Chinook I would stay with 38" generally as a starting point.

Spoons:--- lots of guys will run the small spoons (3" or less) as short as 38". Some run the small spoons even shorter than that.....27". I run the small spoons about 56 to 58" and sometimes 6ft. I run the bigger spoons 5 to 6ft.

Bait:- generally 6ft to 7ft.

When to use it:- Bait:- any time the fish are predominantly on Herring or Anchovy. If they are predominantly on Needlefish, use much smaller bait or no bait at all. Switch to needlefish lures such as Squirt hoochies and smaller spoons.

Read lots of fishing reports. Fish move around. Bait moves around. Nothing is written in stone although there are "general tendencies" regarding locations. Keep an eye on the tides.. If you are in the right place at the right time on the right tide.....good things can happen. Learn which tides produce better in your area.

Cheers...my two cents worth rounded off to the nearest nickel.....
