How deep for chums?

I know you travel really slow for chum. What speed do you troll when your leader length is 40 to 55 inches.. Thank you

2.67 kn.... You're welcome

wow, you guys are flying I like 2.14, but hey to each his own!

You are not going to catch anything with trolling speed that imprecise. The correct speed for today is 2.149003 kph. For tomorrow you will have to recalculate to compensate for the slowing of the rotational rate of the earth.

wow fishing truly has become an exact science, gone are the good old days when a bent hair pin and a piece of meat wrapping twine was sufficent.....but in reality I think you could round that figure off to the nearst 100,000

Where I fish there is lots of current..

Water speed (ie the speed of the gear through the water and GPS speed will be totatlly different..
There are in fact times when the boat will be stationary or even going backwards due to the current.

Quite often you pick an area, and set the bow into the current and don't really move location for several hours until tide changes/slows down then adjust accordingly.

if I dont have a sog or any gps way to track my speed how are my chances of catching fish? coho yes but springs..?

my boat needs a new something throttle..? its either as slow as it can go or one click up and if the current isnt working against me its wayy to fast. do handhelds have a feature that could tell me how fast im going?

You shouldn't use SOG or GPS for speed. The best indicator of how fast your lures are moving through the water is downrigger wire angle.

Using SOG/GPS speed only works in still water. If there is any current, you will be whipping your gear one direction, and hanging limp the other direction. The blowback angle of your wire is the best indicator of relative water speed over your lure, and adjusting speed to keep that angle constant will ensure the lure action is constant.

Seams to me that Scotty should mount a big protractor to hang down from the boom so you can easily keep that wire right on that fishy angle. ;)

That would work great if the fishy angle was the same everyday! But for me constatly changing speed is what triggers most bites! Thats why I dont troll in a straight line.
