Hootchies

One of the unforeseen consequences of Japan's earthquake and tsunami disaster: Almost all the hootchies used in West Coast fishing are manufactured in Japan. Many of those plants simply no longer exist. Those that do are busy rebuilding their Country, and not expected to be putting any amount of supplies into the market for the foreseeable future.

Stocks at the local stores are being heavily picked over right now. Be a good idea if you fish with these to pick up a year's supply of your favorites right pronto!

Cheers,
Nog

thanks nog... a summer without hootchies??? bummer

Good thing I have more hoochies than the average tackle store. My supply is probably enough to last three lifetimes. Still can't stop buying them though. I'm sure it's some form of sickness with a really long name. But hey, whoever dies with the most gear wins. Right?

Nog - very much appreciated heads up. I understood the chovie shortage last year...but who would have ever forecast a hootchie shortage!

Bonus when they get back on line is they will have a new line of "double glow" - they should be hot!

I don't believe it.

The biggest manufacturer Yamashita -producer of popular Golden Baits among other lures -has it's facility in Kanagawa Prefecture a long way from the damage in the northeast-I stopped by Berry's today to check out their Spring Sale and they have all kinds of stock.

Also in Richmond it'll be a cold day in hell when Pacific Net & Twine runs low on hootchies they look to have several decades worth of stock on hand.

And most of what I see on shelves is Made in China anyway.

Never even gave it a thought, just booked a years supply throw the son at A& N. To add to the last last two years supply, the factories in japan will be years before they are online.

Not sure if it counts as a double glow but I have made up a Hoochie combo that I think should kill down deep. You start with a Yamashita 3.5 Octopus (OC209R) which is a clear Ultra-Violet with a green glow stripe on top; but basically a clear UV Hoochie. Then you take an all white glow Squirt and put it inside the clear UV Hoochie. It should glow like a neon sign down deep and I am looking forward to trying it out.

yep, double up's work good too. Try the MP-15 under the OLR12R - yummy. I'm thinkin by the time they get up and running the hoochies will have a radiant glow all their own.

im with Pat, the new hootchies will have a radiant aura which in turn will lead to GLOWING reports of great fishing off WCVI

Like wise, I have enough for a lifetime. Although, I've only caught fish consistently on two or three patterns. Now, is that because they are truely good colours, or because they get fished all the time?????

Yamashita/Golden bait hoochies are made mainly in China and most of the North pacific hoochie are made in the Phillipines- Both have large shipment coming to store near you in the next couple weeks-so I've been told :)

Hopfuuly there is something new as I have all my favorites now....Maybe they are more radient....:(
