Trying to make a homemade pot puller like the ACE Pullers. Got an idea for the motor either a wipper motor or for more power a ford starter motor. Does anybody have any other ideas?

You could use a ford truck rim for the big pulley and Tonka toy ones for the others. ;););)

I'm setting my priorities. I'm making time for fishing.

There's a lot of info in the older posts about just this, don't use the term pot puller use prawn trap.

the problem with a starter motor is the aperage draw is way too high for extended operation....it would be okay for a very short period of time, other than that it would get too hot and kill batteries

Saw one made with trash compactor motor. Not fast but very effective. Gearing was a challenge, but ran on 12 volt out of downrigger plug-in.

I remember hearing about someone using the motor from one of those sit on scooters older/handicapped people use in malls/stores and on the sidewalk. Worked perfect.

Problem with the scooter motor is that a lot of them are 24v and will run on 12v but you lose torque ie (1/2 the voltage 1/4 the torque) I still use my puller with the T1500 winch motor and have no problems.

tried a wiper motor. It worked ok but got hot and was huge drain on the battery. ended up getting a used sailboat winch. not the fastest but lots of pull for the deep sets.

T1500 is a Superwinch made for small vehicles or quads. Usually available at Canadian Tire on sale and Princess Auto.

we had one up at the lodge a couple years ago that was made from a wheelchair motor with a scotty plug wired into it. Worked pretty good.
