High Tech Jigging

I've got to get some pointers. I kayak fish out of Nanaimo and have had no luck with salmon this summer.
I had the same problem-I wasn't understanding the actual mechanics of jigging--how difficult could it be?? I'd jigged bottom fish all my life but no joy with salmon. I didn't have "IT" My daughter and I watched Gale Force -slow pitch jigging on you tube-practiced it and did it--and started having success. Those ladies aren't hard to look at but the techniques work.

Best jigging experience I ever had was in front of the pink apartment maybe 12-14 years ago. I was with my uncle's Nat and Franco from "Nats" on Broadway. We had lots of good days jigging back then but this one in particular it was dead flat calm like a lake. We rolled in before the sun had come up but there was light. We were in my shiny new Maxum 1800 bowrider. We could see bubbling where some bait had been pushed to the surface, drop the lines and bang bang bang all three had hits. Managed to net them all and then looked again to find the bubbling. Spotted it again about 100 yards away, drove over it, dropped the lines and same thing. This happened 4 times in a row and all three of us had our limit in less than 15 minutes. It took more time to clean off all the blood. We used the green pearl 2oz zingers exclusively back then and caught mostly coho and pinks. That same year I caught my first spring in the same spot. 17lbs, I'll never forget it.
But did you have a cold chicken sandwich?

Can you please post the link to the video?

Then go high speed vertical jigging- takes you to their topics. Also many vids on that page on slow pitch jigging. Worked for my daughter and I
Thanks Spring Fever for the link. That is basically how I fish on the way up or just reel fast then jig now and again. On the way down you can either just let it drop or let it drop with a jigging action now and again. Always have a very light thumb pressure on your spool (with baitcaster reel) to control drop and feel any hit you might get. There are many ways to impart the action that mimics a bait fish in distress.
In regards to the new rod you got for jigging is the butt of the rod long enough to setup underneath your armpit. I find my rod isn't quite long enough for that, I wish it was as I think it makes the jigging less tiring.

I’ve been a long time lurker and been fishing BCs shoreline for awhile. I was looking for something new and found this post. Thanks to everyone with all the tips and tricks, this has been one of the best posts in a long time. I am definitely a believer in these metal jigs. They were all sold out everywhere but I found some on Amazon. Cheaper and prime if anyone is still looking for them for the upcoming chinook salmon opening. This was from earlier today with nothing but a 150g jig in blue and silver.

Looking for a medium trevalla to add to the line up if anyone has one kicking around. If not looks like Christmas time until any shops get one.

Strange you should mention that-my grappler does and it looks like a conventional rod-but I took a chance and ordered a rod from China from amazon for my wife-124 dollars. Took 31/2 weeks but man was it worth it-weighs nothing-just has the carbon blank and a big padded knob on the end-all FUGI eyes and seat-says it is good for 200gms but I think only 160 tops-with a tiny knock-off reel -it weighs nothing-I promptly banged 4 very credible springs with it in my 14 ft tinny kinda a Campbell River sleigh ride!! LOL Outfit called rosewood fishing. So I have some fairly expensive shimano jigging stuff but the most fun was on a complete outfit from Amazon that cost total not including braid 225cdn. Meanwhile my shimano torium 14 is still being held hostage by the Russian Federation. How does the USPS route from miami to west coast Canada thru the Russian Federation. I digress--it's an insurance job so I'll finish the season on my wifes buggy whip!! More fun anyway!!

I'll be around the south side of Lasqueti tomorrow and was hoping to try out my Shimano bottom fishing set up for salmon jigging. Was wondering if anyone can suggest some specific areas that may be better at holding fish than others. Regardless, really hoping to get my first salmon on a jig tomorrow.

Look for the rapid rise from 250-300 ft depth as you near the shore and follow that drop. Time it for the tail end of the flood, that pushes feed up toward the shallows.

Also, the channel between Lasqueti and Sangster can be fairly productive. Either way, just chug around for a bit with a close eye on the sonar. When you see a bait ball it's stop and drop time.

Love this jigging!! never know what is going to happen--magic afternoon at sentry shoal--bait was around unfortunately the salmon were small -released 4 and then a keeper-going to call it a day and then one last bait ball-working with my wifes tiny rod and little bait cast reel-amazingly light outfit-I'm just ripping the jig and then it stops-solid-bottom--no heavy duty head shake boy that little rod has some backbone 25lb ling he puked out about 5 8inch herring before I gaffed him-beautiful sleek looking fish. Great afternoon on the water!!

Well Surprise! Surprise!! Guess what showed up in the mail from Chaos Fishing in Florida and Amazon!! You got it -a shimano Torium 14 jigging reel ordered over a month ago -routed by the USPS via the Russian federation --no movement for 3 weeks-considered lost-refund issued and here she sits!! What NOW?? I lost 10 bucks in exchange in and out-so will they contact me?? Should I contact Amazon?? I should add I bought another reel so a bit of a pain!!

Like Kramer from Seinfeld said “it’s a write off Jerry, they just write it off”, lol.

Tell them you will send it back with the same routing on their dime, and they have to pay you the shipping first.

Really put the fun back into fishing!!! Ready for April 1- Powered by extra long shaft merc 60 and 9'9 from Inlet Marine

Man you won’t be disappointed. @advTHXance has a wicked Shadowline CC
Mine is nothing so grand as his-I wanted it smaller so all my gear can stay on and go in the garage-low enough hp to be cheap to run-and a big enough dance floor to make a grady owner envious, LOL Me and my new dog buddy are going to cut a swath and learn to keep up to ILHG, his son and Waterwolf2230--well close at least.

Sounds like a premium CR slaying machine!

i had looked into a custom 18’ runabout type build by shadowline earlier this year but the wife decided it wasn’t the right time.

I look forward to seeing the final product and hope it works out for you.
