Do many of you use Hi Vis line for trolling? What are the advantages or disadvantages? Final question, what's your favorite Hi Vis line?

Changed over to the berkley big game this fall, was chasing a big slab at Renfrew and dad kept trying to drive over the old clear line.I really like it,and so does he.Dan

I went to Maxima Red Chameleon couldn't be happier with it.

Not quite as wiry as the original Chameleon but plenty tough and easy to see.

Thanks, I looked at some of this today. I've pretty much been a Maxima Ultragreen fan because of how soft it is so I was concerned the Red might be as stiff as regular brown Chameleon, which I don't like. If you say it's not that stiff I'll probably give it a try. I like the red which should be less visable at depth than the green or yellow but still easy to see on the surface.

I started using the red power pro 65#,really like it you can see it on top of the water very well, and red is one of first colors that disapears under water.

Another question. When using plugs or spoons (no flasher) do you use a less visable leader or just tie straight to the hi vis?

With a spoon I use a leader about 6 to 8 ft as I want a swival on it to not coil up I use a good swival on all the rods, a sampo with a quick change and then just run a bead chain or any swival.

Now with a plug we mostly use lucky louies or j-plug and 4 bead bead chain goes thru the plug with a big single hook which then we tie directly to the rod and take off the sampo quickchange so if you have a break off the plug floats to the surface. if your are using tomic plugs we usually take out th "pins" so then the line goes straight thru the plug just another way.

Guys get really attached to there "favorite plug" so they want to keep them that why we use these ones so if you break the line the fish goes away with the hook not your plug after a bit it will resurface found one one time a week later but got it back for a fellow guide who he named it "betty" it was a stubby shovelnose lucky louie in pink pearl for the older folks on here you know how valuable they were LOL

Good luck Wolf

I use regular for all my leaders.

Take only what you need.

I've been using the Mustad hi vis yellow with very good results and it is reasonably priced. I like it because you can see which direction a fish heads off in when fishing big swells. The other advantage if you are fishing around other boats is the line is easier for them to see where your fish is at and hopefully avoid cutting you off.

I loaded one of my reels with P-Line hi vis 20lb yellow and the other with Maxima hi vis yellow (same as Ultragreen, just yellow) and headed out fishing over the weekend. I love the stuff. It makes it so much easier to track the line when fighting a fish, seeing angles, etc. Another bonus for me, who is somewhat sight impared, was it was very easy to see when tying knots. Can't wait to tackle some big springs on it next year.
