Herring Strips

Hey I am just wondering do you use herring strip target on Springs?

How long is the leader beside the flasher or the dodger or without the flasher or the dodger?

Which one is better, to put a line on the herring strip teaser on centre or top ?

I just came back from a week in Bamfitld and used frozen Herring strip there for springs. Wouldn't say it was the best bait I tried, but wasn't the worst either. It's old school for sure, was the go to bait back in the day for old guys like me. If you look at the package, they mix super strip and large strip in the same tray. You can tell because the dark topside is upside down in the teaser head. Super strip was the "gold Standard" , faster troll than large strip. Deadly on winter springs and summer fish from Victoria to Sooke. It's a great lure without a flasher. Anchovy took over as it is a much easier bait to rig and fish, plus all the native ladies that cut for Rhys Davis retired.

I remember strip holders were modified with a heated hook.PICT0047.jpgPICT0048.jpg.the few i have left i believe came center front pull from factory.

Thanks guys, I will give some try herring strip tomorrow, Tomorrow my buddies and I will go salmon fishing from Beechy head to Possession point.

We used super strip a lot in Barkley sound many years ago. My old man used to heat the teaser heads with a lit match and bend them until he got the roll he was looking for. It was very effective for springs, but few things weren't in those days.

I've thought about trying it again for fun too.

Thanks for your tips.

I have bunch of larger herring that don't fit on the herring teaser heads, I cut strips between 6"- 8" long
