herring in the gorge

A guy at work said he saw herring jiggers on the gorge.

seems kind of early.

Any news?

march 10th -30th is the aprox season! but who knows this year everything is messed up! It was always over school spring break and ive fished it for years now!

With the gorge drying up for herring is there any where else that a guy can go jigging for herring? Maybe go out in the boat near Frazer Island and jig from the boat. Or do you think its possible to go looking for herring balls and scoop up a net full? Just an idea..... don't know if it will work. Steve.

It will work go find them it's a lot less fuss than standing on a bridge with 50 others.Tide changes outside the Race is a good place to look.

Thanks bananas, Outside the race is a good place to start is it...I'll give it a try. Will we notice a lot more herring balls around with the herring that are spawning in March or will we even notice the herring coming in to spawn?

I never noticed more herring balls during the winter season. Contrary - I think all the balls I have encountered were during summer...

Yes you will see them start to ball up starting in the next couple of weeks.Mostly around slacks,just bring your glasses and watch.good luck.
