hey guys,
i fianlly found some squid around a few nights ago. i used my squid jigs, the prawn things with the round prong hooks at the bottom, but when i threw them into the school they had absoloutly no interest in them at all. I was there for a few hours and got so frustrated, they wouldnt go near the jigs and i couldnt even snag them if my life depended on it! helpppp :P

Put a weight at the bottom and put 3-4 trebles up your line spaced out a foot or two and snag em. I didnt tell you this if its illegal though.

I have only found the jigs work when they are mating. I believe that is in the winter time. We used to take our jig and place it in front of a light for 5 minutes, so that it glowed, then toss it in the schools. The males would go nuts on it. Used to catch a dinner of Calimara (sp) in about 20 min.

aha yea for sure, i was at maple bay and was into a school maybe 50-60 squid?
I talked to my freind though and he said his bud was at cowichan bay and they were everywhere

I'll be at the boat tonight (cow bay) . I'll have a look.

A trick is to do 6-7 little jerks and then yank up as they are inticed towards the jig and you can nail them. If using a squid jig reel up guickly as the jig is barbless and they scoot off given any slack.
Also like a report.
Anybody fishing for squid with boats tied up around please clean any ink off the boats so not to ruin a place to go again.

ive caught lots of squid using a bent gibbs minnow out of the victoria harbour casting off the cruise ship docks at night
