Help with Navionics gold

I have a LCX 18C, has a drawer in the bottom and two spaces for chips (aprx 1" x 1.5")
My old chart was for north coast, so went to marine supply store and bought a new chip. It is exactly the same shape and size as my old one, but it doesn't seem to work. I see there is a tiny chip within this chip that comes out, but I have no idea what this is for. The person at the store I bought it from doesn't seem very knowledgable and can't help me.

Any suggestions?

The tiny chip is a micro SD card and the larger chip that the small one fits into is an SD card adaptor. One of the card slots in you LCX is for an SD card and the other is for an MMC card. While an MMC card will work in an SD card slot, an SD card will not work in an MMC card slot. Make sure you have your new SD card in the correct (SD) card slot.

You need to go into the menu on your unit and select the south coast setting in your settings for the unit. It will be set for the north coast setting in the menu. Go into where it asks you for the plotter info and chip info. I just set up the same unit for someone that had a US chip in his if I had a unit in front of me I could talk you through the menu unfortunately I don't. It is fairly simple you just need to get into the menu and go through the settings until you find the chart options. Good luck.

Does Navionics actually make a north and south coast chip anymore?

I thought the only one they made now is called Navionics Coastal Canada......does the entire BC coast and east coast.

For some reason on mine every time I turn the unit on I have to go in and set it to "Coastal Canada" in the CC selection box.....otherwise it shows nothing.

They don't make separate chips but the old style plotters need to be keyed to the right areas within there programs. New plotters just up load and away you go. Old technology still needs to be steered in the right direction to upload the data unfortunately. The down side of old technology but you can use the new chips in them.

The Gold is the whole coast. If you have the platinum chip you will need two chips for the coast.

Here is a picture of my chip tray. The chip on the left is the MMC that came with the unit 7 years ago. At the time the Hecate Straight was a separate card. I understand now that the whole coast is on one chip, and that is the one I was sold on the right. It does have a tiny chip inserted within it, and a sliding lock on the side. But I have tried every combination of locked, unlocked, both left and right slot and nothing seems to work. I just get a flashing question mark on my screen. Even the function buttons don't work with the new chip in. If I remove it, then the functions work. I am really stumped.

Edited..
Further investigation leads me to believe I need to update from 1.7.0 to 1.8.0 Unfortunately I don't think Lowrance supports this model anymore. I'm really PO'd because I took my Lowrance into the dealer to make sure they sold me the right card and now I find it's obsolete and cannot return the card.

"Flashing question mark"....that is what I get on mine until I go in and select "Coastal Canada" from the chart menu.

My card is a combo of USA Lowrance, Navionics Coastal and Navionics Coastal Canada.

If I don't make the right selection all I get is a flashing question mark.

My problem is none of the functions work while the question mark was flashing. If I take the card out I can go to the menu to choose location, but the unit basically freezes up with the new chip in. But in the picture above, it seems odd to me that the very left contact on the new chip is lower than the old one.

It may be a memory problem. I have the SD/13XG card which covers all of BC. In reality their are 8 different charts on that card. When I place the card in my Lowrance HDS7 every area of BC can be seen, however, if I place that card in my Lowrance H2O Ifinder I have to select one of the 8 charts that is on the card.
