Hey Tim ..looking like this is the problem.....I'll find out tomorrow... I'm currently using a NEP-1 so I can run my HD-5 at the back of my boat.... Should have it figures out yet...

I have an HDS-10 with BR-24 radar and Sirius satellite weather connected through a NEP-1 expansion port. Plugging in the expansion port is what causes the interference on channel 68 on both handheld and main radio. I can use either the radar or the satellite antenna with no radio interference. Question: Does the new Navico Expansion Port, NEP-2 solve this? The product from Gander Mountain description says: "A plug-and-play hub with robust 100-megabit switch for high-speed data-sharing of multiple HDS, LCX, LMS, and GlobalMap® products with 5-pin ethernet connectors across an onboard network. New box design emits less VHF radiated energy than its predecessor, NEP-1, thus eliminating VHF interference. Will connect up to 4 compatible head units per expansion module. Waterproof expansion ports resist corrosive marine environments. Unused expansion ports are capped till future expansion. Links with other Expansion Port-1 modules for added expansion. "

I called Lowrance tech support about the VHF noise on channel 68. They offered to exchange the NEP-1 for an NEP-2. I installed the NEP-2 and the noise on channel 68 is gone. There is still some minor noise, but I can squelch it, which I could not do before.
When the BR-24 radar is on, either in standby or transmit, and connected to the NEP-2, I get some noise on other channels, 10, 20A and 67. The noise goes away when I turn off power to the radar or unplug it from the NEP-2.
In the NEP-2 installation manual, they give some guidelines for how far apart the various components should be mounted, and I do not comply. I have a 26' center console. The only real place to mount the radar dome, Sirius antenna and VHF antenna are on the T-top. The VHF antenna wire runs down one leg of the T-top and the radar and satellite cables run down the other. All the ground and power leads are solid. Rearranging the wires seems to make no difference. I even pulled a pair of wires directly from the battery to the radio and it made no difference. I then used those wires for the radar and HDS, and still no change, so I think I have ruled out bad connections, ground loops, etc.
In my opinion, Lowrance has adequately fixed the problems with the NEP expansion port. There is still be some excess rf noise coming from the radar dome, but it is of little consequence for me. All in all, I am very happy with the system, and thrilled with Lowrance tech support. When I have called them, they have answered within a few minutes, and been helpful. Only once did I get someone who was unable to understand the issue. I thanked him for his time then called back later and got a better person.

They don't manufacture the NEP-1 any longer. They replaced it with the NEP-2 which supposedly has this fixed (I have one and it seems fine with my HDS-10.)
Anyone with a NEP-1 in warranty should be insisting on a NEP-2 to replace it.
Interesting that it costs about 100 bucks more than a NEP-1. You want to torture one of the cs folks, ask them the difference between a NEP-1 and NEP-2 and why the difference in price.

Is it an Icom radio? Just curious.
It doesn't matter what radio. He has tested with a hand held radio. The expansion port is acting like a VHF transmitter and sending out a signal for any radio to pick up.
