Hardy Buoys on The Big Decision

Not sure how many of you had a chance to tune into the season finale of CBC's The Big Decision tonight, but Hardy Buoys out of Port Hardy was on and as I'm sure many of you know, they have the best smoked salmon in the world...literally, and are a huge part of Port Hardy. I'm super excited to report that Arlene Dickenson agreed to join them as a partner allowing them to continue making unreal smoked salmon as well as custom processing of sport caught fish. Urge you all if you're in Port Hardy to get your fish done there, will last years in the freezer and tastes like brand new...plus if you do any smoking it's the best I've ever had...by a mile, and I've had home made, St Jeans, you name it, I'm sure I've tried it.

Look at your Save On Foods, Wal Mart, and other grocery chains for their products as well! Cheers to a small town family business being saved and continuing great products for many years to come!

Great News they are still afloat....Thanks for sharing DS

Great job Bruce and Carol and to all in Port Hardy that was there for support, you guys have an amazing business. Just to clarify, I do not think that Hardy Buoys was saved by the Big Decison, this was just part of the show. From what I understand, Hardy Buoys is a thriving business and was a part of this show to help promote itself and the town of Port Hardy.

Great Job Hardy Buoys,

Ok, I'm just going from what was stated on the show. Apparently they were spending $450K a month and only receiving $300K a month...once again, on the show this was said but could be dramatization.

I watched the show, it was very well made and really portrays the company as one that you would want to support. I don't know how much was staged, but it was cool to see how so many from the community rallied for them.

I've dealt with them in the past and the product was excellent but there's no way the owner (who's name I can't remember) was so dumb he'd stay in a business where he was losing $150,000/month.

Made for TV, gotta love it. Bruce and Carol are great long time friends of mine and I know they would want people to know they are not on hard times, business is good and this show was all about promoting their business Hardy Buoys and Port Hardy.

Hate to say it but thats not how you make fans by deceiving them, regardless of a show or not. I watched it and believed there story but if after that I knew it was made up for TV, I wouldn't be running out to buy there product. There are better ways to promote then by lying to your clients.

yo mamma-- hope this doesn't hit you too hard---BUT THATS HOW REALITY SHOWS WORK!!! ;-) Do you really believe all the crap they feed us on flying Alaska??? If it was that bad-- the FAA would have shut them down years ago....I have no problem with a little "license" of the facts if it makes it more entertaining. All we have to remember is that TV is just like the internet--Don't take everything as fact.
Cheers
CL

I know how they work but as a company you are responsible for what your advertisers portray of your business. If they are promoting a bunch of bull to people to feel bad for them and buy there product, even though they are doing very well then I personally don't like the tactic. I really don't give a ****, I like St Jeans and they didn't have to trick me into buying there product. This is going off of "rumours" they are actually doing well which only their accountant and them truly know.

I agree with yo mama - I watched it and was moved by it. If bear cove is right - I sure hope he is not, my sympathy is all gone.

I work in the TV business. The owners have little control over how the story is spun by the producers of the show, no matter what they're told beforehand - sounds like it turned out pretty well for Hardy Bouys in the end, though and good on 'em, as they're a class act. As was intimated before by a couple of posters, its reality TV, the truth is only a vague suggestion...
