Hand Held Portable LED Search Light

At this point I do not have a spotlight on my boat and have been able to get away without one. But I am always left with that nagging feeling . . . What if. I have not had good luck with extrernally mounted lights so was thinking of using something I could put on my dash for those times I need it. Could plug into a plug on my dash. On the other hand, I could easily install one externally. All my other lights, inside and outside are fine. Anyone have any suggestions, advice, etc. on which way to go and what lights have worked for you.

its all about the lumens. ill ask my bf hes a 'flashlight guy' lol id probably go plug in style if you have the plug already. lights on a whole are finicky enough getting a rugged marine grade one that can take the salt will be bling. we started looking into one last year ill see what he found.

I've got some western rugged 2.5 million candle power spotlights. Come with 12v cigarette chargers and ac charger. They last about half an hour on a full charge and are very, very bright. I have 3 for sale, 25 bucks each if you are interested. New in the box.

I'm selling because I bought 10 of them in an auction and don't need the last 3.

I would go for the mounted type...

It's always there when you need it, it doesn't take any dash space, it's ready to go with no need to charge it or look for the charger and when you find the charger the plug is all corroded, been there done that. I have the mounted one myself but so far never really needed it. It's got the remote control which may come in handy one day(night LOL)

cheers

A fireman who fishes with me gave me the rechargable Maglite. He has the LED version and I have the incandescent. Mine has more pin point control. I have used it for years going out the river in Port Renfrew and it has been bullet proof.

a good spot light needs a good lens , like a fresnel or big power for punch and distance. LED's don't have the distance power ...YET.

Crappy Tide Motor Trend 10 watt 4 hour rechargeable LED . Also plugs into the dash. has a really good reach. Not very compact, but who cares in a boat.

Exactly LED's are not usually that bright...Unless you start going high end with luxeon rebel LED's etc. The optical properties of a lens give you the distance...

Well, I can assure you that the deer in my yard have been surprised more than once when I fully lit them up as they tried to get into the apple trees! ( and I live on acreage) The Crappy Tire one I mentioned DOES pack a lot of whoomph!
