If you bleed the halibut when it's alive by cutting the gills on both sides your fillets will be snow white. All the blood in-between the meat and carcass will be gone and no blood lines thru the meat. I bleed all my Ling, Haly's and Yellow Eye ASAP for best quality.

Roy is one of the good guys.
He and Profisher give a lot of helpful advice, especially from the Sooke area.
They both get slagged from time to time, but that should come as no surprise.
I know Roy bleeds his halibut...not sure what happened in the photo.
I general cut thru the back bone and bleed them from that perspective.
Could never find a real active blood vessel when cutting the gills?
AND almost forgot Englishman...LOVE HIS REPORTS.....he is the most honest fisherman reporting on this forum!

Like he said bottom of 9th inning fish last rod out,,,, as i had to go play a ball game bleed it as much as i could by cutting the gills , as for any other comments whatever...... it was a GREAT day to be fishing with dogbreath once again we have so much fun and thats what it is all about.....

Yes it does I never took a pic of the filet with the fin & tail attached because we were in something of a hurry and Roy really did have somewhere urgent to go after the charter finished-a baseball game as mentioned.

Thx for the compliment Fogged In. I've not posted on Sooke thread since mid-April as I am on a camping/fishing trip across Southern BC to visit with my daughter in Calgary. As for a report - biggest fish so far is a 4lb Lake Trout from Mahood Lake (near 100 mile) and a 2lb rainbow (on the fly with 3lb tippet) from Mitten Lake near Golden.
