Halibut spear

Hello, I am building a halibut spear and was wondering if some one could tell me what the average lenght of the spear shaft is from the the base of the handle to the tip? Thanks.

5 feet is plenty.

Thanks Island Fish Lifter but what I was looking for is the lenght of the S/S shaft that the tip is attached to where it goes into the handle.

A foot is fine as your just driving it thru the fish sideways most are only about 4 inches wide unless your catching 200 lbers all the time and thats another issue LOL

Most I've seen would be about a foot of SS sticking out of the handle. Just has to be long enough so that it will allow the harpoon head to exit the far side of the fish completely

This one has a 14" shaft. I made one that is a copy of this basically.

Thanks guys that was exactly what I was looking for. Just have to cut the shaft and I'll be done and ready for opening day.
