Halibut reel choices???

I have a penn 330 and 340 and really like them both. I actually find the 340 a bit to heavy as it throws off the fulcrum point of the rod i have it on, to far to the back. I would deffinately reccomend the 330 penn though.

FoR Me Shimano TLD 25,s. Great work horse,s. Would only want to replace them with two speed Shimano,s. Cheers Fc

hey there dragon whisperer i happen to have a penn 45gls, never really used it, was my dads and he barely used it, maybe a couple of times. looks new, i would be open to offers.
thanks, scott

Anyone here use Abu Garcia Big Game reels?

I checked out the local shops today and they felt best in my hand for sure. Maybe just because I've fished the rivers with their reels forever. Found the 9000 available for $180, compact size looked like it would balance on the rod better than some of the bigger ones out there. It could easily hold a full spool of 100lb Toughline.

I've got two Abu 9000's, two seasons no problems. Found them from some Catfish place in the US Missouri for about $69 US each, great deal. They balance well on both my rods especially the Trevala, hold enough line and for the price cannot be beat. I think if your not fishing Halibut 100 days a year they are perfectly fine. They also haul line up in a hurry.

shimano tekota 500 but need or wanted more capacity went to the new FINNOR offshore with a 6.2 gear ratio makes reeling up fast but sacrfices on the torgue. using these on trevela rods 200lb line test
would definately get the level line in future.
caught a 163 lb with no problems. good luck.

Thanks all for the feedback.

I ended up with an Abu 9000. Balances nicely, holds a full 300 yard spool of 100lb Toughline, and just feels good in my hands. Didn't see the need for anything bigger, would just make reeling in slower and more cumbersome.

Headed for the Work Channel in a few weeks, hopefully it gets a good test!
