Halibut opening

just because hali fishing isnt open to retention does not mean you cannot still go out and fish for them...thanks..;)...holmes*

Dude... chill out... was just looking through some previous posts and note that you caught your first Hali in 2010 (Nootka thread). I understand the frustrations but it isn't like you've been at this for 30 years as many others on the forum have...

WOW, it seems as tho my post disappeared eh?....interesting....is keeping a halibut over 126cm against the law?.....i was always under the impression that in CANADA, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty, rules and regulations are just that, rules and regulations, are they really "law" ?.....if a person fails to adide by a certain rule or regulation and is issued a violation ticket, do they not have the opportunity to challenge the accusation in a court of law and pressumed innocent until proven guilty?....i dunno, maybe im confused here................holmes*

This belongs in the Conservation/Politics Forum.. I see no relation to this weekends hali opener here. If people make sarcastic posts that stir the pot, then that just makes more work for me.

Back to this weekends Hali opener and that's it.

I can't wait for this weekend, being looking forward to this for months. We are going to Esperenza, and hopefully reconnect with some big flatties in the land of the Dinosaurs...then on to Hardy for the good tides next week. Here's hoping for light winds....

I too will be heading out just after Hali is open for retention, hoping to catch some big Halibut out there.....should be interesting to say the least.....good luck out there everyone and be safe, hope you all catch the monster of a lifetime...hope the weather is decent enough up here in Nootka, fun times ahead.......:D.....holmes*

yes, it's all about hits, gotta have those hits...

Yes, in fact it's vital to have the hits....

Homes - ever hear the phrase “Less Is More”.

Don’t take this the wrong way because I am trying to help you. You have some passion and most of the time your heart is in the right place if not always your impulse control.

Here is a suggestion for a little self imposed discipline. I have to work on this myself from time to time.

Willing to try a little experiment? Let’s pretend for the rest of the month that you only have two posts per day. They will not be the first thing that pops into your head but rather have put some thought into. They must be a minimum of 100 words and make at least one rational point or argument that has some originality or that otherwise provides useful information.

You may not be the first person to break 7000 posts this month but I sense that would be a dubious distinction anyway.

Rockfish if he takes your advice you won't hear from him today...wait a second...is this some kind of jedi mind trick or something...I should get back to work, I sense a disturbance in the force

Weather looks ok for the WCVI. Getting stuff ready this week. Should be good times. Can't wait!!!!

Please keep posting in this thread folks. Hope to see some pics come the weekend. Craven started a great thread and I will try my best to keep it up.

Cheers,
John

Regarding currents - I had to buy the Washburnes Tables instead of the Murray Tables like I usually do. Does anyone have an opinion on which is better?

I compared these free ones (http://www.epiphyte.ca/dl/current_atlas_tables/tables/current_atlas_jdf_sog_tables_2013.html) to Murray's tables last year and found that they were so close that I may just go with these free ones. Not that the 8 or 9 bucks for Murray's tables is going to break the bank... Maybe buy Murray's and Washburn's and compare all three - still very inexpensive. Everyone has their favourite, but I doubt there is any objective or scientific evidence that one is better than the other.

Looks a bit windy off of Victoria this Saturday and Sunday. Forcasting strong winds out of the west. Might have to find some calm seas on the Sidney side?

JL.

Currents suck too Jacob try Sidney or hope for no god damn wind next weekend. Even in Sidney your going to have really short windows.

gonna try some spots from vancouver.... let ya all know!!!

Just want to check in to see if my understanding of the regs are the same as everyone else's, i.e. from March 15-31 there is no max size limit and any halibut harvested during this period do NOT apply to the 6-fish annual limit, but if you're not a day tripper and thus have two fish in possession the 83cm slot for one of the two fish applies. As of April 1, for the Apr 1/2013 to Mar 31/2014 licensing period the max size limit and annual limit both kick in for the rest of the season.

Is that how everyone else interprets the way the new regs have been posted in the Fishery Notice?
