I felt the meeting was very informative, well attended and extremely well run. The panel was excellent. Really impressed with Maple Ridge MP (not)who confirmed he must wear contacts as he has no ears. He just doesn't get it. Hopefully next election he will be gone. There was a collection box for donations at the door, hopefully the crew got some cash to keep the fight going.

I was very disappointed with last night's town hall meeting in Maple Ridge . There were about 300 present 1/3 or so were from the commercial sector. The presentations by the panel were excellent however the question period was completely hijacked by the commercial sector in an American style filibuster.
The same old BS was presented - divisive tactics to split the sport fishing community into sport/commercial and sports-fishing (divide and conquer), the commercial sectors sense of entitlement concerning our common property resource. The commercial fishers had obviously scoped out the room and sat near the mike located at the rear of the room for the question period. This tactic they used to the best of their advantage. There were 3 presentations made by the commies which all went over the alloted time leaving no time for anyone from the sport fishing community for any input other than 1 gentleman who had a question concerning how fisheries notices concerning closures were communicated to the general public.
My position has been that our fight is not with the commercial fisherman but the "slipper skippers" however I am rethinking that position after last nights meeting. If they would like to pick a fight I am the first person willing to accommodate them!
After the so called question period both Randy Kamp and Fin Donnelly made presentations. Mr. Kamp presentation was a bunch of mealy mouthed crap of the type you would expect to come from the Conservative Party and DFO upper management.
Unfortunately Fin Donnelly the NDP Fisheries Critic was not much better. I had hoped he would give some support to the sport fishing community however that was not to be so. I will be sending letters to both.
It appears this is indeed going to be an uphill battle; the results we are hoping to see however will definitely be worth the fight.

After reading Double Troubles post in "Important Meetings Derbys And Get Togethers" I think my attendance estimate may be too high - I have never been much good at that type of thing.
