Halibut limits, one or two?

how many of those little winter springs do yo let go and don't lie, there's nothing wrong with releasing hallies they are on tuff fish alot tuffer than those little springs you let go.

Sorry, but we are dreaming in technicolor if we seriously think there will be any upward adjustment in the sport allocation unless we can buy up unused commercial allocation. What's wrong a with setting conservation escapements and then managing both user groups within those? We all must be concerned with future generations of fish, so we can continue to enjoy them. If we get our heads too far up where the sun doesn't shine we will wake up one day facing the total collapse of the fishery much like they did on the East Coast...where, DFO bent over to the wishes of the users and ignored the science to the detriment of the fish and future stocks. We need to learn from history, and not become victims of ignoring it. So I'm all for setting reasonable daily catch limits (2 fish) and total possession limits on a punch tag system (10 per year).

following the technicolour dream here.... I like the one a day and usually fish with more than one licence holder on the boat. I also eat a lot of halibut. I like it way better fresh...(or not frozen for 4+ months) I like the one a day because I can pretty much go out there any time I want and usually get more[:I].

My Idea? I do feel the allocation is slightly unproportioned and should be fought but what if there was a one a day limit per licence, then tags can be bought to a "other" specific daily limit for a nominal fee for these people that go out once a year on a charter to fill up on chickens for a year....could. Slighly more regulated but works for every one.... I can get through January without getting more.......last year caught me off guard [V]

One per licence......one per licence plus a possibility of 2 tagged fish per day..... 5 bucks a tag, limit of 10 tags per year....or even 5[?]...Very easy to regulate through online licencing if they go that way

Fisheries can sit at halibut prone docks like oberservers instead of going for joyrides on thier fancy crafts?

.....an idea..... thoughts?

Sorry Lip...

I'm with Sushi and the others who feel we 'Sporties' - the ones who bring (by far) the greatest net-economic benefit to the Province/Country as users of the resource - are paying plenty already for every pound of fish we take.

AS A GUY WHO CAN HARDLY AFFORD THE SUBSTANTIAL COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH MAINTAINING A BOAT, PUTTING FUEL IN IT, BUYING TACKLE, BUYING BEER, BUYING LICENCES, I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE ANY OF MY FELLOW FISHERMAN WOULD SUGGEST WE SHOULD 'INVENT' WAYS TO PAY MORE TO DO WHAT WE DO!
JEEZUZ, THAT'S LIKE GOIN' TO JAIL AND THEN BENDING-OVER IN FRONT OF 'THE-BOYS' JUST TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN...

****-on em'... it's about apportionment and our 'Constitutional' right to A FAIR-DISTRIBUTION of a publicly-owned resource.

I dunno hawk. Might Have skim read what I said?
I said the allocation number are not correctly proportioned to the use of the fishery, thats the only thing dfo could change. Our canadian catch allotment is nothing to do with them. A 20/80 ratio would be a lot more fair forsure. As I say I have no problem with the one a day again because I can get out when I want and not really have to far to do it. 5 bucks was just a number.... doesnt have to be that. It was an Idea to help the people that dont get out as much as some others like the people who especailly get charters for halis.
I do agree with ya that sure the sporties bring quite a bit into the economy and is a arguement that you have brought up before but hard to figure your numbers. Sure the landing price was around $4/lb but where does that factor in the expenses of the boat(gas, food, emergency repairs) the jobs of the truckers the move all the stuff around. I know it puts millions directly into Victorias cash flow just from the processor employees.. then ya could factor in the restaraunts.... their employees.
I would rather fish all but Janurary than have spurr of the moment closures.
