Can anyone provide some advice on where to go to seek out some Halibut outside of Nootka? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Try 130-150 depth off of Wash Rocks, or go over off Burwood a little closer to shore. Also look for pinacles on your charts. Trolling with cannon balls just off the bottom, or drift with spreader bars. Tight Lines,........BB

well i seem to be doing almost the exact trip as you fishbite...heading up on the 8th and staying until the 12th..its my first time out there with the oldman, as we usually fish bamfield and the barkley sound area. We've been pretty much been told all the same spots as been listed from friends of the family but not too sure about going outside for the halibut...anyways if your out there give us a shout....and maybe share some info if you like!!..

Cheers!

we just got back yesturday from Esperanza (next inlet north) and we did alright on halibut. We just look for 200-250 feet of water and then depending on your chart plotter look for sand and gravel. Big herring with octopus on the hooks, keeps the bait alot longer.

SpillyTalker,

I will give you a shout, and let you know how we are doing. I will be in a northriver, red-wine colored stripe with a grey top. Fishbite is a good call, as I got the nickname after nearly loosing a finger when a Chinook tooth cut it open and got infected.

We did well in July, and are hoping for a repeat performance...

Hopefully, will talk to you on the radio.

Thanks Fishbite, classic story......we'll be in a campion with a black stripe around it, with a black top. i know we are going to try outside if the weather permits, but looking at the weather forecast, i guess we wont know until we are out there. As for the radio...just try Spillytalker! good luck and maybe see ya out there!!

cheers

Where is the "Highway"? Heading to Nootka on Friday. Looking forward to halibut fishing. I have been to Nooka once years ago, but never made it outside as the wind blew. What about off Bajo?

Is the hiway only considered off Esperanza, Ferrer area or does it run up and down the coast farther?

I fish from Winter Harbour down to Bamfield. Most people consider the hiway as the start of the 50 fathom line. Once you get down to Ucluelet and Bamfield areas the hiway breaks up since the fish are more keyed on the banks.
