When I called, during the boat show, they were 39.

I have seen the ones for $39.00 and not impressed. That price doesn't even cover my materials - just saying.

In pictures there are 2 store bought units and 2 home made shafts no?????? I can see the UPC sticker on 2 of them.

The shafts are all store bought. The longer ones from Home Depot and the others from another supplier.

no clamped steel band to secure the shaft to the handle? how is the shaft mounted into the handle?

5/16 in hole drilled approx. 6 inch deep and gorilla glued in. No way the shaft will come out.
