Hakai / shearwater advice

Will be up at Shearwater for the next few weeks, if anyone from the forum is up that way come and say hi. Canadian Shore, 85' can't miss it.

I was trying to make the connection between you and the partial port bow of the aluminum seine boat in the photo thread. I get it now. Very cool set up. Have a good trip.

LOL, I guess on a sportfishing website I should have mentioned that she isn't a seiner anymore. One of many upgrades she received during a major refit was an extended stern with a hydraulic ramp for fishing and activities. I will try to post a report and pictures while up on the central coast. Cheers.

So, may be headin to Hakai next week (last min invite)is there anything happening up that way...? Going regardless just be nice to know what to expect or not and to know where to put effort in, or not.

Thanks, I'll let ya know how it goes.

I'm heading up that way with 3 boats on July 29th. We are staying in shearwater area.

Lots of coho around but springs are hard to come by..... I looked at the Shearwater BC Outdoors derby board yesterday and a 27lber was leading. I will try to post some updates over the next few weeks.

The springs are here... I heard about a 61 lber near cape swaine and a few in the 40's at cultus. Our rig managed a tyee and 5 in the 20's around cape swaine. Big spoons in chrome, 602 and irish cream worked for us.

Just got back, fishing was ok. The "Gap" and Donald Isl were most consistant for springs (you had to work for 'em and put yer time in but they are there). Wedgeborough was smoking for Coho's on the tide change. Odlum pt looked amazing, birds, humpbacks, needlefish, excellent conditions but very slow.

It was all power mooching/cutplugging so can't speak to what success downrigger techniques may have stirred up...

I haven't been out for a few days but there are some huge fish being caught. 46lber yesterday and I just saw a 50 and 60 on the dock at Shearwater. I have to wait until monday before heading back out :(

I heard from a guy in Comox today that the Rivers Inlet Lodges have been sweating bullets waiting for the fish to show up

It sounds like it's finally happening for them if Hakai is producing?

It seems a bit late for a lot of spots

Just got back from Ucluelet---had to work pretty hard for the springs; not normal for tail end of July.

It was very slow a week ago... but big fish are pouring in now. Three fish over 60 lbs from this area within the past few days.

Are fish starting to hit the inlet? Going up on Saturday. Plan is to fish the inlet if reports are good there or head up to spider island and cultus if the inlet has been slow.

Spider should be on fire right now, the next two weeks up there should be the best two of the season. Has been for us over the last 10yrs, lots of big fish!

reports sounds good, everything is right on time!!! Ill be staying up in shearwater and fishing milbanke sounds from the 3rd to the 13th. bring on the hogs!!!!

are there any forum members fishing Rivers Inlet Aug 1 to 7th??

We will be up there @ Dawsons. If anyone else is at this dock, shoot me a PM...as always, nice to meet fellow board members...

Then we may see you....younger (late 20s) crew of 3 will be on board a black/grey northriver, likely at the far west end of the dock...if you fall off the edge, you've gone to far! lol

Cheers! Will keep one cold Saanauk...

Bought a new trailer and had a crane lift my boat from the old to the new. See you at Dawsons Finished Buisness.

Thanks for the info hambone.

Go to Spider, will be better than Rivers this time of year. I plan first week in Spider for the last 10 yrs. 5 yrs ago I picked up a 68, should have that same run coming through again his year. We had a bunch of big hogs 5yrs ago, missing it this year, pretty bummed as it looks like there are some big fish showing up.

Good luck, looking forward to hearing about your trip.

Friend of mine just got back from Milbanke-gist of his phone message was-personal biggest 47# and someone else released one est. @ over 70#.
