Granite Countertops - Need Recommendations

Before my first day on the water, I need to get "the kitchen reno" done. Fair enough I got the boat first. Anyways I am collecting quotes from Duncan to Campbell River on Granite Countertops and there has been quite a difference in price. Do any of you have experience (good or bad) with Granite Installers on Vancouver Island that you would share. Nothing better than first hand information. Feel free to private message me or post here. Thanks in advance.

We used Colonial Countertops in Courtenay. Great service - competitive price. But we didn't buy granite. We went with quartz instead. Very similar in appearance, but no ongoing maintenance to worry about.

We are using Colonial in Victoria (at the direction of our designer) and a few other friend have also recommended them. They have been around a long time and offer all types of counter tops at reasonable prices. In the next few days we will be off to Surrey to a stone yard called Hari Stones (that name kills me) to pick out our granite slab to be shipped to Victoria for our reno.

We also looked at quart and it is a great product, comes in allot of interesting designs and is maintenance free. But I find granite is natural and the flow of the rock formations patterns cannot be recreated but you then have to deal with sealing it every year or so.

Go to Colonials Victoria show room near Mayfair Mall, they have lots of samples to look at and make sure you buy 3mm+ thick at a minimum.

Then there is the back splash tiles to choose, that is way harder to select. Then the cost of tile are running at $40 per sq ft for the nice stuff to $20 per sq ft for the ok stuff plus installation. Who would have thought a back splash was going to cost so much.

Good luck and be prepared to open up your wallet, one thing leads to another in a kitchen reno.

I've been using BC Granite in Parksville for my homes. Call Darren 248-0788. Tell him you got his # from Brian Klobchar.

Avoid Infinite Granite at all costs. As a cabinetmaker I've seen many disappointing installs from them. On the other hand PIG in nanaimo seem to produce a quality product. Who ever you go with make sure they make proper templates, a few quick measurements won't cut it.

we have granite in our kitchen and bathrooms. the installer sealed them some 5 years ago after the install was completed. water still stands on top of the slabs so sealing every year is really not a requirement. if its done correctly to begin with, they are pretty much maintenance free.

colonial countertop in courtenay exc job good price. they do a laser measure boy did it ever fit tight. wait till the home show in spring they usually have specials on
