Good place to keep a boat in Ucluelet.

Got our rooms booked for the end of July out in Ucluelet and I was just looking to get some info on marinas in town. We are booked in at the Thorton motel so would like a slip as close as possible. Any info is much appreciated. Plus, is there a local tackle shop in town where a guy can get some local info on where to get started on some fish, first time out there for us.
Thx in advance.

Probably as good a bet as any for moorage would be Island West Resort, it`s just down the hill from the Thornton, approx 1 or 2 blocks.
They have a launch, moorageand trailer storage, plus motel, pub and a small selection of stuff that you may need. They also have freezers for your use, at a cost of course.
Probably the best fishing that time of year would be off-shore, but you don`t have to go that far to get to the
banks.
Most people will share some direction as to where to go.
I`m planning the same thing about a week later.

I would just keep the boat at the government dock - it is close to Thornton and cheaper than Island West. If you stay at Thornton they will most likely let you keep the trailer there at no extra charge. Pioneer Boatworks is well stocked for tackle - they also have a chart in the store with many of the well known fishing spots marked on it. There is also a new tackle store down by the govy, but the name of it escapes me at the moment.

Thx for the info guys this will definitely get me going in the right direction for a good start any how.

Thx again.

Friend was thinking of going the last weekend of July also - and it seems Island West is all booked up.
How does the mooring your boat at the Govt Dock work? Do you have to reserve a spot? Is there a phone number to call?
Thanks.

Gov't dock is first come first serve. There are no reservations, but there always seems to be a spot available. If you come in late, you may have to raft to another boat. But, that is normal if all dock space is taken.

Pretty normal for Islands West. You can usually get a spot on early to mid July then from late July until September it's booked up pretty good.
