George Ardley, the LATE George Ardley was proprietor of Rivers Lodge. His wife ran it for a few years then sold it.
It is quite a ways from Good Hope. It is located in Sleepy Bay, at the west end of the Darby Channel.

I enjoyed fishing at Good Hope every year with my sons for the last 6 or 7. George Cuthbert and his staff always did a great job.
But their location only allowed them to fish nearby with cut plug, as no downriggers or artificial baits are allowed at the head of the inlet.
This made their focus on the large Chinooks heading to the Wannock River to spawn, and that season apparently not long enough to sustain operations.
While they could run to more open water, I assume this was tedious for their guests.
Too bad. A beautiful, historic and well-preserved cannery from bygone times.
They had excellent boats and equipment.

Yes they did sell it a couple a years ago to some fellows from back East I believe...Casey and his mom is

are still managing it I believe.... :)

Thats the one.. didnt know that George had died. Spent time with him and his wife in the 70s-- good guy.

When I was there two years ago, the owners from back east were there. Great folks.

There's merit to the comment about limited fishing options at the "head". But, that added to the adventure. Hooking a 50 pound fish that's only 24' from the back of the boat with only a single action reel and rod. Pretty pure.

We did the run out to the more open waters for coho. The run wasn't difficult, it was very protected. But the fishing could get tough if the afternoon wind picked up.

If you look at the dates on the new website, there aren't that many more. I hope this doesn't mean the run up the Wannock was getting too low.

On a side note, those boats they run are a blast!

Didn't someone post here that they added downriggers to the boats?

All I know...one of the most beautiful and special places I've ever been. Thankfully we went there before it closed. It was on my Dad's bucket list and when I re-did my bucket list, I put it back into the top 3 even though I've already been there.

Heck, I loved it so much, I considered becoming Canadian so I could go work there.

They had put riggers on the boats for the 2013 season..... The fish run has been fairly steady at 3000-5000 springs a year on the spawning beds...but always need a helping hand so they continue.. :)
