I knew that the original topic was gonna get locked up by the way the topic at hand was headed! Now i'm not here to talk about who's fishing for what on whatever river, and what methods are being used i just would like to ask if there is any info on the returns on the goldstream river? thanks alot! Lest keep this topic about returns not anything else!

CK

How can you discuss low returns while skirting around the issues of user groups and harvesting methods?

Low returns... that sucks. Most be overfishing... oops sorry.

Well was going to start a debate on that c.k. but from the previous post it won't fly , so sorry maybe we can have a forum where we all meet face to face and then the pot stirrers won't show !

um ok guys! simple question is there a website that posts #'s of returning salmon-returned salmon to our rivers in bc? wanna see how bad or good the returnes for goldstream were this year! thanks

CK

I will look and see if I kept the report from the SFAB meetings and there were returns for several East Coast V.I. rivers and streams in there , I can't recall if Goldstream was in the count or not.
Will look for it tomorrow heading for the fart sack right now !

Cheers

Thanks Al that would be awesome! Aw crap here we go i'm gonna stir the pot now! Just spoke with my good buddy that lives in brentwood bay on the sartlip reserve so i had to ask about a pic i seen posted on the other thread with those native guys using gill nets to catch fish, he stated that there is a small window on witch the sannich natives can use this method in goldstream he says it should be posted in the dfo web page, he also stated that other allowable methods are dip netting and spear fishing all topics that were argued on the other thread! I've known this man for 20+ years and he says he's ben fishing these methods for years when allowed by dfo that is! He also stated poaching happends anywhere a huge group of fish gather to spawn and everyone always presumes it's the natives wich is not the case! ding ding round 2

Is there a website that shows the fish counts for the province? It still might be a bit early I guess?

I had to lock the other thread, lets keep it atleast semi-civil.

Thats exactly what i'm looking for to! a website that does counts of fish returning in bc rivers!

@$#$%%^$%& , can't figure out to put the report on this site , Cowichan escapement according to the SFAB Committee report was approx 2300 Chinook , no count for Coho but considered less than 2000 and there was satisfaction in the release of 250,000 pink fry last year.
San Juan River Chinook count as of December 1 approx 2500 with 1,000,000 eggs taken for the hatchery , Coho less than 5,000 with the average from earlier than 3 years ago being 25,000.

Bob Galluagher of the Cowichan , Renfrew , Nitinat SFAB will have all this info , that s where I get mine from email
gallaughers1@shaw.ca
Can't find anything on Goldstream in the report.

Cheers

i looked at the board at goldstream when i went in late november it said 48000+ chum, 219 chinook and i cant recall the coho count.

Experimental net pen release from Cowichan Bay last May. These fish will return this year (2009) for the first time starting late July/August. We'll see how it goes...

Might be now........ lets see what happens when they return?...

I do believe the were released from the bay though? Not in the river

Ok i havent checked the regs as of yet but i will but i was under the assumption that goldstream was no open to sport fishing?

CK

coho-k.: They talk about the Cowichan River even though this topic was originally about the Goldstream...
