Can anyone tell me the link for the Global TV "Ask a question of the candidates." ? Cant find it. We need to get a whole bunch of questions sent in on the "Great Canadian Halibut Give-a-way"

Try this:

question@electiondebate2011.ca

I'm drafting one as well. They have to be in within the next few days and I encourage all of you who are not happy with any particular aspects of Pacific fisheries management (DFO) to pose questions to the candidates and pin them down as what they are going to do to address rec-fisheries, habitat restoration, salmon farming and the halibut quota fracas. The more submissions, the more likely they are to push the questions through.

Remember, us tidal people combined with our freshwater fishers and spouses likely number near a million here in BC; this is a good opportunity to awaken these bozo's to this fact.

Great idea just sent my ? in on allocations and Privatizing our Sport Fishery. Come on boys its easy and the more the better

Damn good way to get our questions some focus folks! Suggest as many of us as possible shoot them an Email! Already done on this end! The more of us that do so, the greater the likelihood they will receive the care and attention we all desire!

Cheers,
Nog

This what I sent in...................

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to question the candidates on a subject that impacts 100,000 westcoast halibut anglers.

The Conservative government has entrenched a give-a-way of our pacific halibut resources (88%) to a small number of commercial fishers. (Initially 435) The recreational public fishery is limited to only 12% of "their" fish. This has resulted in early season closures, reduced limits and economic loss to many small businessmen who run lodges or guide boats.

Given that the economic value of a sport caught halibut is worth many more times what a commercial halibut is sold for, and the government purports to adhere to a "Best Use" policy for our fisheries resources... I would like to ask the candidates these questions:

Do you support giving away any further fisheries resources to a select group of commercial fishermen through the Individual Transferable Quota system (ITQs), or will you insist that the public fishery be given equal access to recreational species such as salmon, lingcod, rockfish, and shellfish?

Will you support a re-think of the present government policy on halibut allocation so that BC can have both a strong commercial fishery AND a world class sport fishery that benefits ALL Canadians?
