Gaffing salmon

nothing gruesome about a couple tasty springs on board, I think if you play them out till they come in on their side you have alot better chance, but i did watch my buddy smash right thru a 30 lb leader setting free a high teener or low 20's this year. watching it swim way with a brand new glow tiger spoon firmly set in it's lip sucked too.

Good work GDW, lot better than that harpoon job you did on that hali! Practice makes perfect!

Great Stuff

Thanks to Karlo and Fish Whisperer for the entertainment value, now either whip em out and measure em on a Table or go get a room....

*Warning gruesome picture below*

Decided to put the wisdom found in this thread to use last night. Left the net stowed away and got out the manliest of landing tools, the trustee gaffe.

Rate my work!

Not huge specimens but at 10-11 pounds each they provided a good scrap and good practice. I've gaffed fish before and each time I landed the fish but it took a couple wacks. This time it was smooth one swing for each fish and the follow through plopped them both into the back of the boat. I did not pre bonk.

Those look alot like my fish when im done gaffing! Somtimes you cant be perfect and get them in the gillplate everytime! i had one spin on me the other day and i went in the jaw like you! It still worked.

Keep up the good work!
