Fuel Meters

I was thinking of adding a Floscan fuel meter (http://www.floscan.com/html/index.asp) to my boat.

Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on the use fuel meters. Is it wortherwhile to use one, or is it not worth the bother?

Thanks

PS: Yes, I already have a fuel gauge. And yes, I know how to read it. <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

sweet!never thought about it till now.great idea.Usually just felt sick as I watched my fuel gauges drop.

it must be something in the water

I have a navman 2100 $160.00 CDN bought on internet.
Very accurate within 1 litre on a 100 litre fill. Did not help with sweet spot but was a great help at slower speeds where a change of 400 rpm changed boat speed by 1/2 knot but fuel burn by 25%. Would not live without one.

I have a Navman and it really works great especially finding the sweet spot while running at speed, i.e.: finding the best mpg per rpms

I have a Navman. Worked grest then the screen went bad but it was replaced under warranty. My mechanic said Floscan was junk.

A question for those of you with the NAVMAN 2100. I looked at their website and it says that it works on carbureted 4 strokes. It doesn't say anything about EFI 4 strokes. Any of you have one on such an engine (Suzuki, Bombardier etc)?

Just a question, because they look like a great product that might be very helpful.

Thanks for your help.

I found what looks like a good price on a F2100 (see above), but the price may not include everything: it's listed at only $111.99. I guess that's in U.S. dollars though, plus S&H. I also see a F2100 on e-bay for more money. I'll look around for what they cost locally, but the above Navman unit appears to be inexpensive compared to the Floscan stuff.

Good feedback guys.

Anyone have a Lowrance fuel meter? They are fairly inexpensive and will hook right into your Lowrance GPS/Chartplotter.

I left a message with Lowrance to ask if it will work with my 335CDF, and I'll post what they tell me.

Red Monster I bought mine at boaters world the $160.00 is CDN includes taxes and shipping at the time listed at $129.00 USD comes complete less than 1 hour to install

Fishwish correct me if I am wrong but I think and EFI has a fuel supply and return line. So fuel flow measured in the supply would not reflect actual fuel burn. I think you need to measure supply and return and subtract the difference. The 2100 only supports 1 flow sensor I believe other models have 2.

Hey Fishwish

I have the same Lowrance product as you. I tried to find something on their site, but no luck. Could you post the link to the meter.

thanks

hfxjack: I think that you are probably right. I will need a fuel meter with 2 sensors for the EFI and not just one like the 2100. Thanks for the feedback.

baddog: I didn't actually see it on the website either. I happen to be in my local marine shop asking about the Navman products, and my buddy who works there showed me a new Lowrance catalogue that he just recently got at a trade show. Like I say, I'm trying to find out some more information that I will pass on when I get it.
