Not sure if right spot for this
Is it frowned upon to launch and Park truck and trailer at cougar Creek campsite mid August to go to Critter Cove for a few days.
We're leaving from Victoria and trying to avoid the 4 a.m. wake-up call to get there at a reasonable hour hoping to get there the day before and sleep in the boat. Then go from there...Saturday Aug 12. Trying to maximize time on the water

Way easier to put the boat in down at the old mill site and run the boat in. Its a 40 minute run...no dusty washboard gravel roads = clean boat when you arrive, good ramp and docks and secure parking. I leave Victoria at 5am, stop for a Bagel and coffee at Macdonalds in Duncan, stop again at the Shell just before CR to fill up the boat with marked fuel and top the truck up with diesel then straight through to the ramp...get there about 9:15-9:30am. Splashed the boat, parked the truck and trailer and arrived at Chinootka Lodge which used to be right across from Critter just before 11am. Picked up my customers at Coiugar Creek at noon, settled them in and had a quick lunch at the lodge and fishing by 1pm.

I know there is more ashphalt now on the main road than a few years ago but the worst section is still gravel and can be quite rough. That is the section from the turn off from the main road down through the Nasook Log dump and on to Cougr Creek. The steep sections can get rough washboard. I'va always gone in by water and just get road conditions feom my clients who drive in

Thanks guys. Sounds like old Mill site it is then
What ya think of these tides on launch day

Make sure you have 3 feet of water below you. It gets shallow in some areas and the river pushes the silt around from time to time. I always recommend you keep the motor up is far up as you can.

I've gone out on a 1 ft tide as I didn't check ahead of time...I had to wait 30 mins to have enough water to get off the trailer...but just went out on the kicker until I got to the Nootka Air wharf. You only have a couple hundred feet of shallower water...not a big deal. The water is very clear and you can see whats up ahead..just take your time if on a low tide.

Profisher is right. I have gone out many times in my 23ft Hourston and on low tides just used the kicker. Once you get to the float plane dock your fine. I just spin the boat around at the dock so I don't have to back out and turn around.

The ramp is good, steep and you can sink the trailer easily if you have to for bunk trailers, without getting your vehicle in the water. The one time I hit low water I was off the concrete and as I said had to wait for enough water to get the boat off. I have rollers so the boat came off easy I just needed water for it to come off into. In the picture I found by searching online just now...the bar of land on the left side is how long the section of river you will deal with....you hug the right side as you go out...deeper.
