Couple questions ... the winds are forecast as 5-15 and blowing up to 25kt in the afternoons (Saturday-Sunday) ... if I have read it correctly ... is this ugly for a 20ft boat? I want to give that area a whirl but don't want to make the 2 hr. tow to French Creek if it's gonna be ugly. How accurate are these forcasts?

Also ... at a fair cruise speed ... how long does it take to bomb up to the Little Q from the French Creek Marina?

This is going to be the trip of the year ... just want to get the best experience out of it and being keeled over the side of the boat hurling ... never makes for a good experience !!!

5-15 isnt bad for your boat, 25 can be real pain and make it a long trip, otherwise about a 15 min ride to big Q.

I have the same size boat. I also was looking to get out today, but am going to pass unless the afternoon forecast changes. Let's wait 'til 10:30am when the next forecast comes out and see if it's any better. A northwest 25 will make it very bumpy.

Those are the Qualicum winds and they can really kick.
Good fishing in front of French Creek, no need for the run to the river.

So straight out from the Marina to 200 ft and start trolling in the 100-150 ft range(?) or are they generally higher ... lower at this time of year(?)

I gathered the 100-150 ft range from reading past posts on the topic ... however ... I'm not sure how this changes depending on time of year ... if it does at all.

TIA

A bit deeper. I have heard guys hitting them in that range but i threw out a third rod at that depth for a few days without a touch. I hit all mine down 180-250 ft. Try and get on bottom or near.

Dont listen to much to that forcast. bigwavedave.ca wind predicitons for columbia beach have been dead on the last week. They only predict 10 knots. There was the exact same forcast yesterday and it never blew up.

Forecast has changed at 10:30am. Looks much better. Hey Kelly, was the 180ft-250ft as on the counter on the downrigger?

Yes but other than lastnight there was not much blowback so in actual depths i would say 170-230ft almost all on the bottom. Some guys have been hitting them as deep as 270ft [xx(]
