FREE 4-NIGHT SEMINAR March 9, 16, 23 & 30, 2026

The waters surrounding British Columbia offer some of the finest sailing and boating experiences, yet they also present significant challenges that require careful planning.

Navigating certain areas can be tricky due to factors such as currents, tides, anchoring, and weather conditions. This seminar will guide you through a detailed, step-by-step process, showcasing the tools, online resources, books, apps, and software available to help you feel confident in your planning, both before your trip and while you’re on the water.

Complimentary Training Session

This seminar is being offered as a free training session, reflecting the commitment of both CanBoat / Nanaimo and Latitude Sailing to prioritize boater safety. All sessions will be delivered live via YouTube in stunning 4K resolution from 7 PM to 9 PM Pacific Time, and every session will be recorded. Registered participants will have the opportunity to access the content afterward for review or to catch up on any topics they may have missed.

Seminar Schedule

  • March 9: Preliminary planning using government resources, local guidebooks, planning templates, online resources, and mobile apps.
  • March 16: Electronic planning with Garmin Boating (formerly Navionics) and Orca.
  • March 22: Electronic planning using Aqua Map and additional tools such as Predict Wind, Predict Current, and Windy.
  • March 30: Manual planning with paper charts, both before departure and while underway.

Aqua Map Navigation App Included

As part of this seminar, participants will receive a temporary license for Aqua Map software, which includes access to the Chart Product and Advanced Tools subscription. Additionally, you’ll gain access to detailed recorded tutorial videos covering many of the software tools being utilized.

I spoke to the Moderator after the first session and asked if the folks who can't attend, get copies of the presentations

He told me that every session is being recorded (both audio and video).

If folks sign up and it is free to do so , you will be able to get all of the sessions and download them after the course ends.

Class attendance doesn't work for everyone, and the Instructor has a grip on that.
