There have been huge waves of pinks moving down through Johnstone strait for the past few days. The PSC has upgraded the pink run size to 24,000,000. It's going to be insane off the mouth of the Fraser for the next few weeks.

Warm up your smokers.

Talking to someone from the Pacific Salmon Commission Sunday he said the test set results in Johnstone Strait were twice as high as any ever recorded.

A nice report and ton ton ton of pinks!

That is why everyone were super busy and stealing the baits!

So what does this mean, if anything, for future Coho and Chinook returns? DFO can't simply blame everything on poor ocean conditions if Pinks are doing well can they?

All the illegal gear pulled out of the Fraser after it closed should tell you why the "prime value" species are doing so poorly. How many are being sent to the under ground markets when the rivers are open?

Definitely but I've heard many a person say pink are an indicator of ocean survival so if pink was good this year chinook good in 2?

already pointed this out once... but the two year life cycle directly corresponds with when the pink smolts went by the ocean fertilization experiment.

not saying i support it... just an observation.

another note... the pinks were still pretty thick out at sooke this weekend.

Bingo!!!!! The illegal trade in sockeye is huge. The natives were going door to door in Surrey selling. They knocked on my bros door and he told them to get f#@ked. How much of it is going across the line? DFO should do an under cover investigation into the black market. Im betting this goes bigger then anyone can imagine...

I have to say that the sheer number of pink salmon combined with the ENORMOUS size on average this year have me playing connect the dots as well...

Never seen anything like it. Should be interesting to see what comes down the road...

pink monsters this year for sure!!! 9lbs?

Yeah, like I said a poor attempt... Anyway, we can all console ourselves with the massive schools of Pinks staging outside the river. Its hard to cast without getting a bite

*silently praying this thread does not become another Flossing vs biting thread* ;)
