Found this in an old tackle box. Anyone know what it's for?

I hear in the good old days guys would use these to KILL THE FISH . I'm not sure what use the fish were dead though.

Strange looking device indeed. I am considering a new business venture salmon watching, haven't decided if it will be on Fraser River where nets are always in play or one of the numerous locations where seals/ sea lions devour the tasty silver fish. I think it could be as big a draw as whale watching.......

It's a rockfish descending device. You shove it up the pooper and down they go!
