Flounder or cod off Oak Bay

Anyone in Victoria hooked into any flounder or cod off Oak Bay?

Most of the better area's are now closed due to RCA's
you will find quill backs, ling cod and lemon sole in some spots...
mostly on Haro.

Interestingly the southern tip of Trial Is is not in the RCA. Wonder why they left it out?

I've caught a few sole, couple legal lings, and more rock fish than I can count out of Oak Bay. Pretty much anywhere you drop a jig South and East of Discovery you'll catch a ton of rockfish, we have to move all the time so we don't over target them. Lings are very hit or miss, and most of them will be undersized. As for sole you'll have to run up to Zero rock, or launch out of Sidney for best luck. If you look around you'll also find some good spots for Kelp Greenling. If you have an extra spot in September I could give you a fishing tour and I'd bring some home made jigs.

As for the south end of Trial there was nothing there last time we jigged it, which is no surprise with the seal population around Trial.

I don't think we have lemon sole (European) here, they are most likely sanddabs. We've caught Pacific sanddabs and rock sole in this area.

Maybe there is a glitch with the positioning of the layer, and all of Trial is supposed to be protected?

The southern end of Trial isn't protected. See the DFO RCA MAP. But as I said no fish, or at least not many.

The chain islands are a different story they are an ecological see BC Parks Page. That being said reading the technical rules of the eco reserve you can't retain fresh water fish for consumption, and you can't have a motorized vehicle so you'd need to paddle them. They could probably argue that consumption is consumption regardless of water type. We've caught Chinook jigging the 70 foot contour below the chain outside of the eco reserve.

Ive witnessed and reported a few repeat offenders fishing(and catching) in these rca's..even pulled up beside a boat and told them (nicely,haha) they were in a rca..still when i got back to the table there they were with little ling,green ling,rock,sole all over the cutting table..this time i was not so nice.they claimed ignorance so i called dfo,and guess what"if we dont catch people in the act there is nothing we can do" perhaps the rcmp can spend less time in the coffee shop and more time talking to people on the water with a dfo officer on board.
