Flir M232 vs M332

I’ve had the 232 and 625. I see no reason for a pan/tilt in the boat. I want to see in front of me as I run, not beside or behind me. Plus, I’ll never need to see up in the sky with a FLIR. But I very much see the difference between a 320 resolution and a 640 resolution. The 625 shows things like logs and crab/shrimp pot floats, even though they’ve been in the water all night long. I have no idea how they reflect, but they do. I haven’t had the 332, but it’s still a 320 resolution.

Build update? Will it be at the Seattle show?

Definitely agree. You need visual clarity first and foremost. And, not sure why you would want or need the pan/tilt function? Doesn't seem like something that you would ever use. My 3 cents.

i use pan tilt a ton. the FLIR is up the mast so it stows itself via pan/tilt so the lens is not exposed. then it will unpan/untilt to normal position when i power it on. that way i dont have to climb up vertically 40 feet to clean the lens and no bird poops on it.

Why not raise the radar and put the FLIR under it? Having the radar show the FLIR mount 24/7 would drive my OCD crazy 😂

yeah radars dont work very well with a giant pole sticking out in front of them. read the manual. thou shalt not locate thy radar whereby false echoes and shadow zones shall impinge on thine performance. so sayeth the good book. amen.

I did test out placement and in the front corner it didn’t seem to make difference when zoomed in or out. The logic for potentially creating a blind spot made sense. Final placement is behind the radar on a pedestal with nav light. Makes for great vision and the height sits just at legal limit when on the trailer.

I got to test out last weekend and its fantastic. Very happy with the clearcruise functionality and how targets get displayed in the image. Adding Another layer of situational awareness to how the radar displays targets. Clicking targets and having it track them is so cool.

Most of my boating is commuting between the marina and cabin. So lots of late nights/early mornings. First trip was late night Saturday. Very helpful crossing the straight then navigating the line of trap floats and mooring buoys to access our dock. So cool to see everything when its pitch black.

TPZ is definitely worthwhile option of the M232 and Added a 3rd Axiom MFD to run this setup. Makes for a cool geek factor.

Added bonus I got a $500 visa from raymarine.

10/10 for this install.
