Fishing Kyuquot this summer

I have a chance to fish in Kyuquot this summer and have several dates to choose from. Since I haven't been there before, I would like to hear from you guys that know the area as to when would be the best time to go. Springs and halibut will be on the wish list. Thanks.

Pretty much anytime through early July through to mid August.

I have been in late June, early July, late July, early August and mid-August. Last year was the latest I have ever been and the springs were tough to come by but the coho were thick. Guys were having to run WAY, WAY out to get into the springs.

I'll be over there in early August.....not my favourite time as I have preferred July.

Thanks Pippen. While I'm at it, since I haven't been there before, I would also appreciate comments on the various lodges there. They seem to be priced about the same and everyones opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am over there July 5 - 10th. I'll give you a report when I get back. Tough to compete with a Pippen report. Scotty seems to be able to out do himself every year on reports. This year I suspect that Kyuquot may have a shiny visitor named Stanley show up!!!! If that happens, my report will pale by comparison. :-(

Has anyone been there yet this year? If so how was the fishing, or is it to early for that area? Pardon my dumb questions, but it's one place on the coast I haven't yet had the pleasure of fishing. Thanks.

If you're towing your boat and launching at Fair Harbor, it's quite a tow. The road is pretty poor, and it's a few hours of gravel and potholes. One trip I came back with a broken axle, and another time with a destroyed bearing race. We camp on Rugged Point, and fish the reefs. July has worked out well for us in past years. It's a great area, good fishing, no crowds.. but getting there sucks. Due to the road conditions I don't bother with Kyuquot anymore, and stick to Barkley Sound instead.

Ill be heading up there some time early this summer, I have gone up there the last 15 summers at different times, I have found that the fish are always around but we seemed to get the biggest around the first half of august. the only problem with that time in the past few years is you have to be a ways offshore to keep the larger fish and we have had quite a bit of success in years prior on the larger fish around spring island in close which is why we now go earlier, I havent looked at the regs this year so it might be different

feels free to Pm me if you have any more questions about the area and ill be happy to answer as best i can

I have guided there off and on over the years and liked early august best..I have a friend who lives there and guides, nothing special for springs yet, but halibut has been good all winter "they did not mirgrate away at all" As far as a place to stay there, Walters cove lodge is a very nice land based lodge, however if loads of fish is what you want then I would fish with murphy sportfishing.
