FISHFINDER

Since your line goes behind your boat, I can't see what difference turning off the sounder would make when there are 200 other boats all around you using thiers, I.e. Sooke in the summer. My same argument goes for the black box. IMHO

Very interesting there deewar i personally catch alot of big springs and my sounder is always on!!!!!!!!

One thing you have to remember is fishing is something you have to be good at some fishermen catch more, some way less there is this guy in the marina that i am at he will follow me out fish right near me and not catch fish and he gets very frustrated when he see's me getting them alot of it has to do with the presentation of the bait especially off of sooke and i do believe different colored flashers and teaser heads also make a difference.

A fishfinder being on or off isnt going to make a difference unless there is a serious electrical problem in your boat then of course there are bigger problems than not catching fish!!!!!!!!!

Good luck Wolf

Hey, this is what message boards are all about isn't it - verify information, shoot down speculation :) Went to the experts (lowrance) to try to understand the science of it all. The reasoning is the sonar waves are ultrasonic in the range of 50khz to 300khz, apparently salmon only sense in the range of 500 hz to 1khz (based on scientific study of lateral line reception and electrical activity in the ear). They go on to mention that they have heard evidence that turning off a sounder helps on a slow fish day, but they believe it is more based on other factors such as those you guys have discussed above.

Now if I'm fishing for whale though, I'll turn it off <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Thanks all for dispelling the myth I had engrained into my head!
