First Tyee!!!

So after the GF no longer being a virgin, she wanted to go back out today. So off we went to see if there was anything around.

It was a lot slower than yesterday, but the boat caught it first Tyee and because she was busy sun tanning, I was the one who got to bring it in:D

It was my first tyee in 14 years, as I have been living in the interior since I left the Island and have had very little time to get back.

It was 32 lbs and I caught it on.......you will never guess....a Bait Buster in 5" Glow Green[:0]. I had fished just about eveything in the boat and was not having any luck, so I thought, why not, as I have also caught fish on the Charlie White Lure:D[:p].

Also, get out in the sunlight, and use a flash to fill shadows.

No sunglasses, and if you absolutely have to wear a hat, tip it back so the light can get to your face. And take more than one photo - if you are shooting digital, shoot at least 4 or 5 with different settings. If there are more than two people in the shot, shoot as many as you can get away with - someone will always blink or do something to spoil an otherwise good photo.

Congrats on the Tyee!

I know they are crappy pictures. We needed to pay more attention to them, but in all the excitement, it was not as important as it should have been. Thanks for the tips.

Don't worry about it. Just offering tips to get you better photos in the future. At a time like that, you have many things to think of including getting the gear back in the water to get another one like the one you already have.

At a time like that you have many pressures on you and getting a high-quality photo instead of a snapshot quickly falls by the wayside.

One thing to think of when photos are being taken on the boat is WHERE is the sun? Turn the boat so that you get the sun on your subjects face, or shoot for backlight and use a flash to fill the shadows.

Learning to use your flash to fill shadows on a bright sunny day can be a bit tricky, but it is well worth the trouble. The trick is to get a nicely lit face without washing it out due to over exposure. This can be hard to do on small "snappy" digital cameras. If you have a 35mm SLR or a Digital SLR with a seperate flash, then you should be able to control the amount of fill flash used.

If you have a digital, try taking a bunch of photos under the same conditions without the fish to see what results you can get. Then when you have to do it in a hurry on the boat, it will be second nature.
