First guided trip - report

Hello, everyone.

I was a guest on a guided hali trip out of Cheanuh on Sunday.
A buddy's wife treated him for his bday, and he and 3 others came all the way out from Salmon Arm to chase fish!

As someone who is on the water somewhere between 40 and 50 days every year, it was a treat to watch someone else do most of the work ;-)
Our guide was Justin with Tailspin on his nice 24' Osprey.
What impressed me most was how easy going Justin was. He answered all of my questions respectfuly and honestly, let me particpate as much as I wanted, while at the same time giving the interior boys the extra care that they needed. To be able to accomodate such a wide range of interest and experience on one trip takes great interpersonal skill in addition to the obvious fishing skills needed to be a guide.

I would recommend Tailspin to everyone.

Thanks Justin!

I have a funny story about Wolf. I had some guests from out of town here, they wanted to go Hali fishing so we booked Roy for a day.

On the way to the fishing spot Roy slows down the boat and looks at everyone and says "I hope none of you guys have bananas in your lunch?" My buddy Andy DID have a banana. He sheepishly said "I have a banana in my lunch". Roy stops the boat, we are idling he says "REALLY? get rid of it!!" He pulls the banana out of his lunch and holds it up, Andy looks at me like, is this guy serious? I give him the nod to chuck it. "GO ON, THROW IT OVERBOARD... YOU CAN"T HAVE BANANAS ON A BOAT!!" Andy throws the banana out the back, Roy gets onto the radio to his buddy "No Bananas" and says, "can you believe it? One of these guys had a banana in his lunch!!"

We all bust out howling in laughter, it was awesome!! :D:D

And then we went and nailed a couple of halibut. It was great fun. I have to admit, it's fun to go once in a while and let somebody else do the work, plus you may just learn a trick or two. :)

Thanks Smiley....appreciate it!

Actually the flatties and good weather evaded us yesterday, but today we put 7 to the boat, kept 4 largest just shy of 80 lbs. Fishing not catching.lol. im not afraid to addmit....if you can be consistent and limit everyday off Vic your my hero:p

I've also been out with Justin once before with my fiancé. She nailed 2 chinook around 16lbs. I caught 1.....about 5 lbs. haha. Booked with him again for my bachelor party in may. Should be a gong show.

We had the pleasure of going on our charter with Roy from Blue Wolf Charters. Given the weather conditions he managed to get us 3 beauties biggest being 65lbs. His knowledge and expertise is second to none. Being a boat owner and fishing the west coast, it was a learning experience to see how a professional does it. We will definitely be using Roys services again. Roy, thanks for a nice trip.

Had a charter on the old Tail spin boat a few years back...
you couldn't meet a better captain than Justin.
the new ride only improves the service i'm sure :)

Thanks Joe it was nice meeting you and the boys had a lot of laughs and good times hope mike(micheal) isnt too sore LOL LOL .enjoy!!!

Can't agree with you more Joe, I've been on plenty of charters and Roy ranks at the top of heap. I've Hali fished a fair amount but its still amazing what you can learn... Knowledge is the key to success... Im sure I'll be able to produce better than in previous years...Just shortens the learning curve so fast when you spend a couple days with a true pro.... And the fact that 4 or more boats anchored up beside us, only a stones throw away, yet they didn't produce from what I could see... goes to show that the small details do pay off.. Thanks again Roy...
