FG knot

Use it on all my Hali setups. I find the length (6 - 8 ft) of stiff fluoro at the end helps prevent tangles. Also, the fluoro is 10 lb lighter test so if you get hung up you know the break is going to be in that last section instead of losing a bunch of expensive braid as well.
I use the same 6-8ft section, but I use a heavy mono. You can tie on a clip at the end of that, or directly to your spread bar or whatever rig you are using. I run lighter sections of mono to the weight to avoid gear loss. It's also nice to have a thicker line to handle when the fish is closer to the boat. Less risk of injury when dealing with thick mono rather than thin braid and fish going nuts on the end of the line.

I use hollow core, have a set of splicing needles so no knots involved very easily done.
Cleanest for sure, but not really practical when the boat is rolling and the bite is on.

the entirety of your mainline is hollow core? who makes that?
Most manufacturers of braid (Momoi, Power Pro, Jerry Brown, etc.) offer a hollow or solid core option. Unless you are splicing there is no real advantage for hollow core. I’ve found it to be less abrasion resistant and larger diameter for a given size vs solid.

yah ive seen guys using hollow core braid to splice a loop to make jig assist hooks with no hardware; just never heard of using it on a mainline.
interesting concept. you could go loop to loop and be done with fancy knots. wouldn’t go thru eyelets nicely though. not for my little salmon jigging rod anyway

Why would you have to re splice? Put a decent amount of top shot no need to splice.

I watch/re-watch the Salt Strong videos and use the Accurate Knot Puller (PNT ordered one in with their Accurate reel order one year for me) mentioned in previous posts and kept cutting and re-tying until I got good at it. Salt Strong has 2 additional videos (FG knot 101 and FG knot "pinky method")that show the exact same method but give you different angles to view the wraps and overhand knots. I like to take my time as I never tie this on the water. I tie it straight from a reel set up in a line spooler clamped to the desk with the drag cranked for the tension. Use a toothpick to finish with the thinnest layer possible of Loon UV Knot Sense to smooth out the whole knot. Super smooth through the guides. Most times I don't even feel a transition to the mono. For those with trypophilia or want to tie a more advanced version this you tube video is next level. Tying nice knots is like chopping vegetables and rolling your own "cigarettes". You either care or don't care how it looks but it all usually works.

The FG is the only knot I use to connect braid to fluoro or mono. I’ll also give it a touch of superglue (when not relying in the middle of the action) to keep the tag from fraying.
