I got to witness a very cool show of nature with some guests at Ferrer Pt. last Thursday. I was the first boat to pull in and fish that morning, dropped the gear and started to troll outside to "sealion Rk" I seen 15 or so killer whales rapidly racing around underneath where the sealions were. As I trolled closer something spooked all the sealions into the water, and man it was the coolest most amazing thing I have witnessed out there! The whales were like pirhanas feeding on the lions and the big mature bull whale keep the sealions in tight to the rocks where the others were teaching the young ones to hunt. It was like a big game of Sealion ping pong as they were batted back and forth then eaten. One of my guests managed to get some brief footage as it ended. He says he will get it onto you tube when he gets home. I will post it when I know. Back on Sunday to see what the rest of the summer holds.

About 15 years ago we witnessed a similar scene at Flora Island. About 1/2 dozen transient killer whales were having a go at the sea lions. The big bulls were swimming on there sides and just before thy came to the beach they righted themselves and charged up the beach to get at the seals. An amazing sight.

I was prawning by Winchelsea Island a few years back when we saw some whales in the distance. The WG range boat was nearby them and I guess they called the Pacific Biological Centre. As the DFO boat arrived, we heard on the radio that a sea lion was hiding under the range boat and the whales were standing off. The DFO boat instructed the range boat to move off quickly. Lunch time. Nice to see some payback.
Looking forward to the seeing the video

sounds like the words of someone who's lost a fish or two to a lion ;) haha

Wow, we were there on Friday morning after we got blown off of the highway and only saw a handful of lions which I thought was really odd for this time of year. Must have been something to see!

geeez , wish they would get a liking our appetite for seals also.
send them over to the Frazer , they would never go hungry.

I saw a pair of transients nail a couple of seals off a drying rock just off of Mitlenach isle when I was 8 or 9. It was an amazing sight---and the first time i realized life ain't quite like walt disney.
