So, my sister in law and her family live on an island close to gabriola. They decide they would like to come down to Victoria to go to the victoria health show. They know my stance on farmed salmon, because I'm very vocal about it to people I know, and some who I don't know. Anyways, they get back to our house and tell me that there was a kiosk there promoting the health benefits of farmed Atlantic salmon! I couldn't believe it! That really pissed me off, I wish I was there. I would have definately let those idiots at the kiosk know what I thought about their 'healthy salmon'!
Anyways, I went off on a rant about diseases, wild salmon, and blah blah, you guys know the drill.
I just thought I would rant here too. I woke up this morning and I was still pissed off, so I thought I would vent here too!

PCB's and SLICE yea that's healthy.
Part of that Million dollars the Canadian taxpayer spent to promote this filthy industry this winter.
[h=2]Government of Canada Helps Put More Seafood on International Menus[/h] Ottawa, Ontario, November 16, 2011 - Canadian aquaculture producers can dive into new export opportunities abroad with a new investment from the Government of Canada. The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans announced an investment of more than $1 million for CAIA to generate awareness and new sales of Canada's high quality aquaculture products while speaking at the 2011 National Forum of the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance (CAIA).

If you look at the DFO site they seem to come up with money (mil here mil there) every few months to subsidize this industry.
The Government should stop this crap as they should not be in the business of picking winners and losers.
That's what the free market is for. If they can't stand on there own two feet they should pack up shop and die.
If there product is crap, then the market will do it's work and they will be gone.
If they can't survive the cost of doing business without destroying the environment, then they should be gone.
If they have to pay for advertizing to convince people there crap don't stink, let them try.
But use your own money not mine.....
I like most on here am so tired of this industry.
Fish Farms please go away.

Those shows take almost anyone as an exhibitor-if you have the money for a booth you're in.

I still remember a travel show in the old BC Place that had the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce as an exhibitor-when I asked what there was to see in/around Abby that was unique to the area they couldn't tell me-the guy actually couldn't speak English all that well.
